My spinal cord injury was due to a motorcycle accident. The other driver was at fault, but he cannot be found. What happens now?
Uninsured Motorist Coverage pays damages for bodily injury or death caused by an uninsured driver or hit and run driver (who cannot be identified) who is legally responsible for the accident. This coverage pays medical, rehabilitation, and funeral expenses, loss of earnings, and other damages if you or your family are involved in a vehicle, bicycle, or pedestrian accident caused by an uninsured motorist or a hit-and-run driver.
Uninsured (and Underinsured) motorist coverage is voluntary insurance coverage that you purchase from your own auto insurance company. If you do not have uninsured motorist coverage as part of your own insurance policy, you may have no way to recover a settlement or a judgment to pay you back for even the most serious injury. Your no-fault insurance or your personal health care insurance might pay most or all of your medical bills, but you would have no way to recover for permanent injury, pain and suffering and many other damages without uninsured motorist coverage.
