Are there any cures for the effects of spinal cord injuries?
There has been advancement towards a cure, but currently, there are no cures for spinal cord injuries. However, ongoing research to test surgical and drug therapies are progressing more rapidly than ever before. Therapeutic techniques, decompression surgery, nerve cell transplantation, nerve regeneration, and complex drug therapies are all being examined as a means to overcome the effects of spinal cord injury. Often, immediate treatment for more serious spinal cord injuries including techniques to relieve cord compression, prompt drug therapy with cortico-steroids to minimize cell damage, and stabilization of the vertebrae of the spine will prevent more extensive injury. It is important to seek treatment immediately upon suspecting spinal cord injury.
