The most serious side effect of GlaxoSmithKline’s asthma drug Serevent is an increased chance of death from asthma, which appears to be a greater risk in African-Americans than in other racial groups. Serevent is supposed to relax the muscles around airways in the lungs to prevent wheezing and shortness of breath. In some cases, Serevent causes the muscles to tighten instead, which can make it difficult to breathe or can stop breathing altogether and cause death if immediate emergency care isn’t given to the patient.

Serevent is also known to cause serious allergic reactions in some people. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include:

  • rash
  • hives
  • swelling of the face, mouth, and tongue
  • difficulty breathing.

Serevent has also been linked to the following side effects:

  • raised blood pressure
  • irregular and fast heartbeat
  • chest pain
  • headache
  • tremor
  • throat irritation
  • nervousness

If you or someone close to you has suffered injury from taking Serevent, you should have your case reviewed by an experienced Serevent attorney to see if you have a claim. See Serevent Attorney and Lawyer – How to Hire to learn more about how a Serevent attorney can help you.
