My son had Neurontin prescribed for his migraines but he quit taking it without talking to his doctor or telling us because he couldn’t stand the nausea and vomiting he suffered as a side effect. Will our damages be reduced because he decided to stop taking the drug on his own?

Neurontin has not been documented to cause any particular withdrawal symptoms. Unless you believe your son suffered a particular withdrawal symptom, he is unlikely to recover for any injuries that have happened after he stopped taking the drug, particularly since it is unlikely that it had any effect on his migraines in the first place. However, the nausea and vomiting that he suffered while he was on the drug are some of the noted side effects of taking Neurontin. Your son definitely has a case against Pfizer, as migraine relief was one of the off-label uses that Pfizer encouraged doctors to use Neurontin for. He should be able to recover damages for his pain and suffering as well as being compensated for purchasing a drug that was not helping him and any medical expenses that he may have incurred as a result of his side effects. These damages, however, will not be reduced simply because your son stopped taking the drug without talking to his doctor first.
