Natrecor has been linked to a higher risk of death within 30 days after it’s administered as an intravenous treatment in a hospital or clinic. It has also been linked with dangers of kidney toxicity. The potential for kidney toxicity was known at the time the drug was approved by the FDA (Federal Drug Administration) in 2001, and was included in the drug labeling from the beginning. The increased risks of death were discovered later, after the drug had been widely used.
