Natrecor Lawsuits, Litigation & Lawyers – What You Should Know

Natrecor, a treatment for congestive heart failure manufactured by the Scios division of Johnson & Johnson, is approved by the FDA (Federal Drug Administration) for use in hospitals only. It’s illegal for a pharmaceutical company to promote uses of its products that have not been tested for effectiveness and safety by the FDA and hence not approved (unapproved uses are commonly called off-label uses).

In July 2005 the Boston office of the United States Attorney for Massachusetts subpoenaed records relating to the sale and marketing of Natrecor from Johnson & Johnson to investigate allegations of off-label promotions. Natrecor has been used extensively in out-patient clinics, which is an off-label use. It isn’t illegal for doctors or clinics to use a drug in a way not approved by the FDA, but it is illegal if the company promoted it.
