GlaxoSmithKline's (GSK) seasonal allergy nasal sprays, Flonase (fluticasone propionate) and Veramyst (fluticasone furoate), have been linked to cataracts – a clouding that develops in the eyes and may cause vision loss or blindness – and injured consumers say that the company's warnings may inadequate.
Flonase Injuries / Veramyst Injuries
Seasonal allergy medications, specifically GSK's Flonase and Veramyst, may do more than just help to relieve allergy symptoms – they may cause you to develop cataracts. According to an online post, a 37 year old Flonase user wrote that he had used the drug over a year's time to relieve his allergy symptoms. However, when he later went to his optometrist, he learned that he had cataracts. He was shocked and checked the drug label for Flonase side effects – and says that the company's cataract warning was inadequate. He, and others like him, want to know why GSK failed to provide an adequate warning.
Flonase Cataract Injuries
Both Flonase and Veramyst nasal sprays contain fluticasone, a corticosteroid which has been linked to the development of cataracts – and this link between fluticasone and cataracts has been known for years. In fact, a 1997 article in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) reported that the use of inhaled corticosteroids such as fluticasone are associated with the development of posterior subcapular and nuclear cataracts. Injured consumers who have filed Flonase cataract lawsuits are claiming that GSK's failure to provide adequate warning was negligent.
Failure To Warn May Constitute Negligence
Drug companies often fail to provide adequate warnings about the possible side effects of dangerous drugs because the fewer side effects a drug has, the more consumers will buy it. However, drug companies such as GSK and others have paid injured consumers billions of dollars in damages for their failure to warn. If you've been injured by a drug, it's important to know that a pharmaceutical company's failure to warn you about potential side effects may constitute negligence and you may have a claim against the company to compensate you for your damages. An experienced Flonase cataract lawyer can help.
