Hundreds of lawsuits have been filed against manufacturers of dangerous contraceptives such as Johnson & Johnson's Ortho Evra Patch and Bayer Healthcare's Yaz & Yasmin birth control pills over serious injuries and deaths of young woman across the nation. Ortho Evra Patch

Johnson & Johnson's Ortho Evra Patch is a once-a-week birth control patch that is advertised as being as safe as traditional daily use birth control pills to avoid pregnancy. However, it has been linked to deep-vein thrombosis, blood clots in the lungs and legs and pulmonary thrombosis which can lead to heart attacks and strokes. Over 20 deaths have been linked to the patch so far and the company has reportedly paid out over $70 million to settle hundreds of product liability lawsuits alleging that it knew about Ortho Evra's dangerous side effects, but failed to warn consumers and downplayed the risks that came with the drug’s high estrogen levels.

According to an article in the Boston Globe, 17 year old Adrianna Niedner died from a pulmonary embolism after being on the patch for a short time. Her mother simply cannot understand how this could happen as Adrianna was described as young, slim and athletic.

Yaz & Yasmin birth control pills

Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceutical's Yaz and Yasmin are birth control pills are taken for approximately three weeks and then a placebo is taken for the remainder of the month. Both drugs contain drospirenone & ethinyl estradiol (estrogen) which can dangerously increase potassium levels. Yaz and Yasmin's dangerous side effects include heart attacks, strokes, pulmonary embolisms, kidney and/or liver damage and many others.

Hundreds of product liability lawsuits and some wrongful death lawsuits have been filed against the company by women who have been injured or by family members in cases where women have died. A blood clot resulted in the stillbirth of her daughter 27 weeks into her pregnancy. She filed a lawsuit against Bayer alleging manufacturing and design defects, inadequate warnings, negligence, negligent misrepresentation and/or fraud, breach of express and implied warranties and violations of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act led to her daughter's death.
