Accutane Lawsuits: Juries Awarding Millions To Injured Victims

It is now estimated that over 5,000 individual Accutane lawsuits have been filed against Roche Pharmaceuticals. The acne medicine, which was sold for over 25 years, is no longer on the market as it has been linked to birth defects, an increased risk of suicide and an increased risk of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Juries in several states across the nation have awarded millions of dollars to injured victims after hearing testimony that Roche failed to disclose safety information and warn consumers about Accutane's side effects and risks.

Accutane Litigation: Big Verdicts Against Roche Are Good News For Plaintiffs

Thousands of Accutane lawsuits have been filed against Roche Pharmaceuticals. While only a handful of those Accutane lawsuits have gone to trial yet, the ones that have may set the tone for the rest. Earlier this year, a jury awarded a New Jersey man $25 million after he developed inflammatory bowel disease. Add the already $56 million awarded to six other plaintiffs who suffered serious Accutane side effects, and that is good news for plaintiffs.

Accutane Side Effects & Risks

Accutane side effects and risks include birth defects, an increased risk of suicide and an increased risk of IBD. According to Accutane lawyers, it's the latter to which juries have responded because the company allegedly:

  • covered up Accutane's side effects
  • failed to warn consumers about those side effects
  • lied to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) about clinical trial data

Roche will be defending itself against these allegations again in an upcoming trial. However, this trial will likely get a bit more coverage.

Rob Reiner, Martin Sheen & Brian Dennehy To Testify In Accutane Lawsuit

These famous Hollywood actors will be testifying in the upcoming trial of fellow actor James Marshall - most famous for his role in "A Few Good Men." According to his Accutane lawsuit complaint, Marshall took Accutane for acne problems. He alleges that the drug caused him to develop IBD and he eventually had to have his colon removed - cutting short his acting career - to which his fellow actors will testify would have been very prosperous. In fact, they claim Marshall could have been the next James Dean.
