Zelnorm Lawsuits, Litigation & Lawyers – What You Should Know
Zelnorm, a drug for the treatment of various forms of constipation, particularly in women, has been removed from the U.S. market because it may increase the chances of the patient suffering heart attacks, strokes, or serious angina (chest pain). The manufacturer, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, took the drug off the market voluntarily after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requested the removal. The drug may still be available to patients with no other treatment options and Novartis can petition to have a limited re-introduction of the drug into the U.S. market. See Zelnorm Information and Warnings.
Zelnorm Lawsuits
No Zelnorm lawsuits for injuries due to use of the drug have been reported, but various attorneys are gathering information about people who have suffered serious side effects from using the drug. It is very likely that lawsuits will be filed.
Zelnorm was removed from the market after a reanalysis was done on 29 studies. The question in Zelnorm litigation will be why the problem with Zelnorm side effects was not discovered in an earlier analysis if the studies were available. Did Novartis know and conceal the information? Novartis maintains, even after the FDA request to remove Zelnorm from the market, that there is no evidence proving that Zelnorm caused heart attacks, strokes, or angina.
