Serevent Lawsuits, Litigation & Lawyers – What You Should Know

Serevent, like GlaxoSmithKline’s other asthma drug Advair, has been linked to asthma-related deaths. African Americans may be at greater risk for Serevent side effects than Caucasians, although researchers don’t know why that might be true.

No Serevent lawsuits have been reported yet, but since Serevent was on the market for 9 years before users were warned about possible Serevent side effects, GlaxoSmithKline may be liable for injuries. Most state laws allow people who have been injured by prescription drugs to file lawsuits against the manufacturer of the drug to recover damages if they were ignorant about the dangers of the drug. This Serevent litigation would address the questions of whether Serevent was defective and whether the manufacturer and distributors were truthful in informing officials, health care providers, and the public about the drug and its dangers.

Public Citizen has accused GlaxoSmithKline of trying to mislead the regulatory agency and the public about the results of the Salmeterol Multi-center Asthma Research Trial or SMART study. Public Citizen claims that GlaxoSmithKline concealed the dangers of Serevent and prevented the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) from warning the public for a significant length of time. If this claim is true, it could impact Serevent litigation.
