Mirapex Lawsuits, Litigation & Lawyers – What You Should Know

Mirapex, a Parkinson’s disease drug, contains a chemical that attaches to dopamine receptors in the section of the brain linked to pleasure and reward seeking. This chemical reaction can produce various obsessive behaviors related to pleasure and reward seeking, particularly compulsive gambling.

Parkinson’s patients who weren’t aware of this side effect when they began taking the drug lost from a few thousand to hundreds of thousands of dollars while engaging in compulsive gambling behavior after being prescribed Mirapex. These patients didn’t have a history of gambling, and the compulsive behavior stopped as soon as they went off Mirapex.

A suit was filed in Ontario, Canada in May 2005, and another suit was filed later in California. The California suit claims that Boehringer-Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, one of the manufacturers of Mirapex, failed to adequately warn patients of the danger of potential side effects, including compulsive behavior. The attorney in the California case has spoken to over 200 Mirapex patients who developed compulsive behavior after taking the drug. He is seeking certification as a class action.

Several other Mirapex cases have been filed throughout the U.S. for damages resulting from obsessive behavior. If you or a loved one has been damaged by Mirapex, see Mirapex Attorney and Lawyer – How to Hire to find out how to get your case evaluated by a qualified Mirapex attorney.
