Elidel Information and Warnings

Elidel, manufactured by Novartis, is a treatment for eczema and other skin conditions characterized by red, scaly, itchy skin. The FDA (Federal Drug Administration) has recently required a black box warning that Elidel use may be linked to an increased risk of cancer.

By the end of 2005 the FDA had received reports of 78 cases of cancer linked to the use of Elidel and a similar drug, Protopic. Animal studies reviewed by the FDA’s advisory committee showed an increase in skin cancer and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma with the use of Elidel and Protopic. The risk of cancer increased with increased doses of these medications.

As a result, the FDA has recommended that Elidel be used only as a second-line treatment, meaning that it should not be used until other prescription-drug treatments have been tried. When Elidel is used, it should be used for the minimum amount of time possible with the lowest possible dose.

If you or a family member is using Elidel, you should consult your health care provider immediately to discuss alternative treatment possibilities. If you have developed cancer after using Elidel, you may be entitled to damages. See Elidel Attorneys and Lawyers – How to Hire to see about finding an Elidel lawyer to evaluate your case.
