Celebrex has been associated with an increased risk of serious heart disease and strokes and other gastrointestinal problems in those taking the drug. Other side effects include:

• Bleeding stomach ulcers – chances increase with longer chronic use


• Liver damage – symptoms include dark urine, yellowing of skin or eyes, and nausea


• Kidney problems or failure

These Celebrex side effects aren’t as common as some less serious ones that Celebrex shares with other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). These include, in no particular order:

• Diarrhea


• Headache


• Sinus inflammation


• Stomach pain


• Indigestion

If you notice any of these Celebrex side effects, a physician should be consulted. If you notice any of the more serious side effects, discontinue use and go to an emergency room.

The risks of Celebrex strokes, Celebrex heart attacks, and other Celebrex side effects, have been established in a study conducted by the National Cancer Institute. It was called the Adenoma Prevention with Celecoxib (APC) trial. When the drug was given to patients at risk for recurrent colon polyps, the risk of serious CV events more than doubled after chronic use for 33 months. These results have not been duplicated in any other long-term study, although the FDA was alerted to the dangers of Celebrex and other NSAIDs when the same doubled risk of CV events was observed in patients who were recovering from coronary artery bypass surgery.
