According to a press release from Ford Motor Company, all of the recalled vehicles are equipped with Texas Instruments speed control deactivation switches which can leak hydraulic fluid, cause overheating and possibly ignite regardless of whether the car is on or off. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported several instances of leaking fluid damaging anti-lock brakes which resulted in fires as well.
