What is a traumatic brain injury?

A traumatic brain injury (or TBI) is one caused by a blow to the head or a severe jostling that causes damage to the brain and its supporting tissues. It differs from other types of brain injuries that you are born with, brain injuries caused by disease, those caused by lack of oxygen, or injuries that occur during birth.
